Longview Ranch Restores a Historic Home

Longview Ranch, located along Central Oregon’s historic Route 19 in Kimberly, maintains 30,000 stunning acres of diverse landscape

In the summer of 2020, Longview Ranch spent time-saving and restoring a home that was about a century old. Nestled along Oregon's John Day River, this home - now referred to as the River House - was built by the same designer of the famous Cant Ranch house, just up the road in the John Day River National Park.

Unfortunately for Longview Ranch, the River House was built on dirt with no foundation. The house had sunk more than eight inches on the exterior walls due to rotten boards and the lack of foundation. While there were thoughts of tearing down the house, restoration is always the way of Oregon’s Longview Ranch, plus this house is a piece of history! After jacking the house up, section-by-section, replacing sheetrock, flooring, wiring, heating and cooling system, as well as applying a fresh coat of paint, the River House is now a cozy guest house that will be around for another century.
